At&t SMS phishing scam BEWARE

So I was jamming out to some tunes and in pops a text message… What happened next was pretty crazy.

AT&T was now asking for my password and other personal information or so I thought. Look below at how closely this page actually looks like at&t’s;

This is a first for me as I’d never seen such a convincing scam via SMS.

I received the following SMS at 7:06 am MST on 7/19/ 2014 from Short code: 29159115

The message read: “Thank your for being a loyal customer, you have received a digital gift, for more information visit: -If this is an error, reply ERROR”

When I clicked the short link it took me to the following domain:

As you can see from attached screenshots, the website looks really convincing. The only give away was the URL it was hosted on.

I just thought other customers could get a heads up.

I did the ethical thing and reported the issue to

What is better than having a Phone that you can connect with your friends with?… That is an Easy question…

One that You can Entertain your friends with!

HTC to Launch in the USA with att one of the hottest phones of the season!

Enthusiasts of other microsoft products will be able to connect with their XBOX live and even interact in some ways.

What I truly think will be the Snazzy hipster entertainment for your friends will be the cool slide out Surround Sound featured on the phone.

It even has a kick stand (that facilitates propping the phone up) that you can slide out to easily view media. This feature is really neat because you will be able to view\download and watch TV shows for a nominal monthly fee (non U-verse customers) according to the page linked earlier in this post (att).

With a 1GHZ processor and external media 16GB it really looks like something I would want to land in my Stocking this year although HTC nor att has publicly announced a launch date.

at&t merger moving forward

I received my form letter in the mail outlining that I will be able to in coming months choose a new device at no cost to me. Apparently I was in a divested market from the Verizon purchase of Alltel. Due to FCC regulations Verizon had to sell my account and that is why I received the form letter.

I was promised a comparable phone and plan as to what I have now. I currently have a CDMA smartphone and with my account transitioning to at&t I will soon receive a GSM phone that will operate on at&t’s national network.

The form letter was not specific in the dates but did state that I would be receiving additional correspondence.

More information about the divested markets can be viewed on at&t’s website:
